Artist Statement

In my practice I explore memories, nostalgia, longing, and lately loneliness.  I investigate  these emotions in both abstract and reality based painting.  My inspiration has come from the French

artist, Paul Cezanne.  Cezanne’s still life and landscape paintings changed the world of art and

introduced a new vision of spacial illusion qualities which I incorporate in my own work.

The themes in my paintings are symbolic markers of time creating discourses between the

past, the present, and the future.  By painting the everyday I can have a dialogue with the

viewer in a language that transcends the familiar.  Through painting fixity and identity I honour

the past while creating room for a discourse between the signified and signifier which generates

the symbolic.
